The Gayatri mantra personified as a goddess. According to the scriptures, she has five faces, with complexions of pearl, coral, gold, sapphire, and white. In eight of her hands she holds a Chakra (her gold discus), mace, kapla (a bowl made from the top of a skull), a red lotus, conch shell, goad (used to train elephants, and a symbol of discipline), another lotus, and whip. With two of her hands she makes the gestures of protection (open palm, finger pointed up), and wish granting (open palm, finger forward).
